Police Officer Rocco Laurie - athlete, scholar, patriot, hero, martyr - was born on Staten Island on October 31,1948. As a young man, he initially distinguished himself as both an outstanding student–he was in an accelerated program in junior high school that saw him do three years work in two–and as a baseball player.
